Buying Your First Laptop Computer

This website allows you to find the right laptop power adapters.

Not everyone is going to use a laptop computer for the same purpose.  This is exactly why they make laptops to perform different functions using different components.  Knowing what you need in a laptop is the first thing you should figure out before you go out and spend money on just any laptop.

Figure out what you are going to be using the laptop for.  Who is going to be using the laptop?  Is it just you or are other family members or colleagues also going to use it?  What kind of tasks do you need it to perform and how much usage is it going to get?  Are you going to be storing a lot of data, files, and information on it?  Are you going to be watching movies, recording movies, playing games?

These are just a few of the questions that you need to be asking yourself.  The answers will help you pinpoint exactly what type of laptop will work best for you.

You should also know that you don’t always have to buy new either.  In fact there are some pretty great deals that you can find on used or refurbished laptops as well.

There is a distinct difference between used and refurbished laptops.  Most refurbished laptop computers have been used at one point in time, but they have been refurbished back to their original (or better) factory settings.  Buying a refurbished laptop essentially means that you are getting a new computer at a reduced price.  Not a bad deal at all!

A used computer on the other hand basically means that you are buying the computer as is.  The laptop may or may not be functioning properly and you would have to clean the hard drive and components to make it work the way you want.  The used variety usually come from individuals selling off their old computers and don’t really know or care how to restore them to make them as fresh as new.

Another factor to keep in mind is the actual size and weight of the laptop.  There are of course some big and bulky laptops that are better fitted for people who won’t be hauling their computer everywhere.  These computers have big monitors and normal sized keyboards that help for gaming or better visual aspects.  On the other side of that coin are the smaller and more lightweight compact computers that won’t give you much in display size but is great if you travel a lot and don’t want to carry a hefty computer around with you.

When you are buying a laptop, be sure to also know what components, software and hardware, come with it.  This is especially important if you are buying a used or refurbished laptop.  This is where you would ask to make sure it comes with the correct laptop power adapter, cords, batteries, and software that you need to make sure it functions correctly.

Last but not least, warranties and return policies are very important to consider as well.  Most new laptops will come with some type of warranty but some stores or brands will carry more than others.  Just make sure that your purchase is backed up through some sort of guarantee…just in case.
