Laptop Power Adapters

Laptop batteries are not the most dependable or long lasting batteries there are.  In fact, they are just downright awful.  The best and most technologically sound batteries for laptops don’t last for longer than 5 hours.  Most average less than 2 hours and only when they are brand new.

What does this mean? This means that the majority of laptop owners primarily use their laptops only when they are plugged in, but leaving them plugged in all of the time will most likely lead to problems with your laptops power adapter.  These too need to be replaced fairly often, especially if you use them all of the time like I do.

Here’s our suggestion…

When looking to replace or have a back up in place of your current adapter, it’s best to go with a universal laptop power adapter that will allow you to use it on any laptop.  Sure these might cost a few more dollars, but what’s the alternative?

The alternative is to buy a power adapter from your specific company.  This will probably cost you even more than a general universal adapter but you won’t be able to use it on another laptop when you buy a new one.

Let’s face it, laptops have a somewhat limited life span and people who own laptops often buy a new one every few years.  So when you have the same problem with your new laptop, this way you would have the universal laptop power adapter already in your household.

Many times the manufacturers themselves will have stopped production on a certain laptop power adapter because of the problems they have (go figure), and even if they do, you will be required to know your computers model number, wattage amount, and voltage.  Then you have to sit and wait for the order to come in.  Heck, your laptop may be non-workable by the time it gets to you.  This is the main reason why we would suggest searching for a universal adapter that you can buy at your local Radio Shack.

It may even be smart to purchase a few laptop power adapters even if your laptops current adapter is running perfectly.  When these adapters go bad, they go bad without warning.  So if your only computer is a laptop, and you rely on that laptop for school, work, or any other important activity, this new adapter may be your only lifeline.

eBay and Amazon are great places to look for cheap laptop power adapters.  If you do search for these items online, make sure that the company you buy from is legit and ask for warranties or guarantees just in case they don’t work or go bad.
